Clinton protested in San Diego
An estimated 150 to 200 demonstrators gathered outside the Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego Sunday, February 15 to protest an appearance by former President Bill Clinton. The San Diego Equality Campaign, the Courage Campaign, Californians Against Hate, and Unite Here were upset because Doug Manchester, the owner of the hotel, contributed $125,000 to support Prop 8. Clinton was at the hotel to deliver a speech to the International Franchise Association. The San Diego Union Tribune reported Monday that Clinton's chief of staff, Laura Graham, wrote a letter to Unite Here, a union representing hotel workers, stating that Clinton tried to change the venue but was unable to do so. The letter also noted that Clinton opposes Prop 8 and hopes it is reversed.
