Mark Ilvonen, center, is joined by fellow Gays Without Borders activists Michael Petrelis, left, Marty G., Lloyd Affholter, and John William Hauser, in front of the Salvadoran Consulate in San Francisco April 17 to demand the return of gay makeup artist Andry Jose Hernández Romero from that country. Hernández Romero was one of 238 Venezuelan migrants flown to the Counter-Terrorism Confinement Center, or CECOT, in El Salvador several weeks ago by the Trump administration after being accused of gang activity. Hernández Romero had been held in a San Diego detention facility awaiting a pre-arranged asylum hearing when he was deported without due process.
