Capping off Lesbian Visibility Week, the Castro LGBTQ Cultural District will formally dedicate the “Living Lesbian Legends” mural, right, at a ceremony Friday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m. The mural is located in front of the parking lot entrance behind Walgreens, 4116 18th Street. Tina Aguirre, a queer Latinx person who is the cultural district director, said there would also be a check distribution, as the district will give a $5,000 donation to this year’s Dyke March. The mural, created by Tanya Wischerath, celebrates Lenore Chin, Leigh Crow, Jeanette Gandionco Lazam, Jewelle Gomez, Marga Gomez, Olga Talamante, Ruth Villaseñor, and Franco Stevens. The mural is next to another one commissioned by the cultural district last year called “Circle of Change,” left, that was done by gay muralist Serge Gay Jr.
