A memorial will be held later this month for Catherine "Captain" Ficcardi, a lesbian who was a longtime bartender at the White Horse LGBTQ bar in Oakland. Ms. Ficcardi died December 22 after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia.
Sarah Hanson, Ms. Ficcardi's partner of about 15 years, said that the celebration of Ms. Ficcardi's life will take place Thursday, February 27, at 6 p.m. at the bar, located at 6551 Telegraph Avenue. The memorial will be on what would have been Ms. Ficcardi's 58th birthday. The service will be streamed and recorded here.
