Happy with Newsom veto
I am glad that Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed Senate Bill 87, which would have exacerbated the epidemic of drug addiction in our community by authorizing "safe consumption" sites in San Francisco, Oakland and Los Angeles ["Newsom vetoes safe consumption pilot bill, online, August 22.] The label of "safe consumption" is itself simply misleading and fosters the delusion that there is some way that inherently addictive drugs like crystal meth can be consumed without any repercussions to the user. Our legislators would better serve the addicts of this state by focusing their efforts on ensuring treatment on demand for all drug users rather than enabling their self-destructive behaviors.
