Roy D. Jones, age 76, passed away on July 24, 2023, in Oakland, California. He was born on July 21, 1947, in McComb, Mississippi.
Roy lived a full life, marked by a diverse range of academic and professional experiences. After arriving in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1965 to pursue his education at UC Berkeley, he obtained his bachelor's degree and teaching credential. Later, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a general contractor, dedicating over 25 years of service to the San Francisco community. Roy's dedication extended beyond his local community, as he traveled to New Orleans with his truck and tools to aid in the post-Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts.
A mentor, philosopher, teacher, and dear friend, Roy was widely known for his warm and friendly nature. He was known for many fantastic parties back in the 1980s at his home in Potrero Hill. He greeted everyone he encountered with kindness and genuine interest. His infectious spirit will be deeply missed by his friends in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as his extended "family" in New Orleans and Mississippi.
