A gathering in the Tenderloin to celebrate the life of transgender minister BobbieJean Baker will be held Saturday, January 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the offices of the Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center, 730 Polk Street, 4th floor, in San Francisco.

Ms. Baker was killed in an auto accident in Oakland in the early morning hours of January 1. She was 49.

In addition to her work as a minister, Ms. Baker worked at API Wellness Center as part of a transgender community health program aimed primarily at women of color.

Although Ms. Baker started working at API Wellness Center in March 2013, she was familiar with the Tenderloin, having worked at the former Tenderloin AIDS Resource Center and the former Tenderloin Health.

API Executive Director Lance Toma, in an email announcing the memorial, said that his agency is a better one because of the work of Ms. Baker.

Saturday's memorial will be an opportunity for people to share stories and pay tribute to Ms. Baker.
