Prashant Hangal, beloved friend, brother, and uncle, died unexpectedly in Las Vegas early January 21, falling ill after an awesome day of playing softball in a tournament the previous day. The cause of death is still undetermined.

Prashant's vibrant personality and easy smile will be sorely missed. Few could resist his outgoing nature, infectious laughter, and love of life. But it was his genuine kindness, deep affection, fierce loyalty, and consistent integrity on which his many friendships were built. He was intelligent, handsome, well-read, witty, and a great cook. He loved opera, Tolkien, travel, San Francisco, all things Italian, yoga, naps, dancing, cocktails, costume dramas, Jeopardy, and intense political discussions " always arguing from a well-reasoned, adamantly liberal perspective. In recent years he had developed a surprising passion for softball and was a member of the Storm Gay Softball League team.

Most of all, Prashant loved his family. Parents Laxman and Sushila Hangal predeceased him. Survivors include sisters Aarati Koli, Bharathi Korabu, Kirti Korabu; brother Nishant Hangal; and nine nieces and nephews in India. All who knew him are devastated by his tragic and untimely passing.

Services are being planned for Saturday, February 16. For details, please email e-mail [email protected].
