Tom Fry of San Francisco died October 12 of complications of diabetes and pneumonia. He was 74.

Tom was ordained in 1963.  He organized and ran his Catholic Gay Ministry, funded by 60 priests, the Franciscan Fathers, and Sen. John Vasconcellos. He co-founded Dignity San Francisco in 1973.

Survivors include his brother Larry and several nieces and nephews.  Ivan Lowney, his 21-year partner, died in 1994.

Tom was active in many causes. He met Martin Luther King in Atlanta, and marched with him in Selma. He supported Cesar Chavez and was opposed to the Vietnam War.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Dignity/SF or to the donor's favorite charity. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, November 13, 10 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Church, 100 Diamond St., San Francisco.
