November 13, 1939 " September 23, 2009

Longtime San Francisco resident found eternal peace on September 23, 2009 after a mercifully short battle with cancer. Born on November 13, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Roger moved to San Francisco in 1970. He relocated to Milwaukee in 2002, but his heart was always in San Francisco (or Reno!).

He was known for his "flip-up" sunglasses, his red or rainbow suspenders, his big heart, and his love of animals of all kinds. He was a true supporter of gay and lesbian rights, and a very active member of Local 2, San Francisco Culinary/Bartenders and service Employees Union. His other passions included photography, classical music and old movies. He was an intellectual, witty, a real gentleman, and he had a great sense of humor. Always very accepting of others, he became special in anyone and everyone's life he ever touched.

Roger is survived by his kitty Baby-Kitty, his sister Sharon Doepke, his niece Sharal Doepke and his nephew Dean Doepke, and many, many friends. He was a very kind and gentle person who supported many causes. He will be greatly missed. If you knew Roger, you also know why this notice is so timely.
