September 3, 1940 – April 6, 2010

passed away peacefully on April 6 due to complications following a brief illness. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Joe was a long time resident of San Francisco before relocating to Sonoma County.

After a long and fulfilling career in the food and hospitality industry in San Francisco, where he was Director of Food Services at Bechtel Corporation, Crown Zellerbach, Metropolitan Life and the University of San Francisco, he completed his career at Sonoma State University.

It has been said the measure of a person is not in how long they live or how much they have, but how much they give in their life. Joe was a giver. "Big E" was a warm and generous person who cared deeply for all those who called him a friend and made a difference in the lives of so many people both in San Francisco and at the Russian River.

A mass and celebration of Joe's life will take place in Guerneville on Saturday May 1 at 1:00 p.m., at Saint Elizabeth's Church, followed by some storytelling at the Rainbow Cattle Company bar.
