May 8, 1943 " March 20, 2010
The world has gotten smaller with the passing of Frank Alexander Melleno. He died suddenly on March 20, 2010, of metastatic lung cancer.
Born an Air Force brat, on May 8th, 1943, Frank lived for adventure. As a boy, the discovery of Richard Halliburton's travel-adventure books fired his appetite for new worlds. In 1965, he dropped acid on Further, Ken Kesey's bus. He joined the Air Force in 1967, filming documentaries of the Viet Nam War, and attained the rank of Captain.
Frank began his career in Property Management when a hurricane blew the roof off the Honolulu Prince Hotel in 1980, and ended as Regional Director of Facilities for Mercy Corporation, where he worked for twenty-six years.
Frank is survived by his best friend and lover, Don Brown; loving former wife, Charlotte, and light of his life, their son, Daniel; father, Frank, and stepmother, Dianne; loving extended family, and many beloved friends.
A reception is scheduled for Frank's book and photographs, "The Fairoaks Project: Polaroids from a San Francisco Bathhouse, 1978," curated by his dear friend Gary Freeman, on June 12, 2010. A mass with memorial service to follow will be held on April 17, 11 a.m., St. Agnes Catholic Church, San Francisco.
