Steven Wayne Kukhahn passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Maitri Hospice, following a courageous year long battle with a terminal brain disease.
Steven was born in Detroit, Michigan, where he lived for 18 years. He then lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 22 years prior to moving to San Francisco in 2007.
Steven was preceded in passing by his father Russell Kukhahn, mother Betty Humphrey. Steven is survived by two brothers; Alan Kukhahn of Manitou Beach, Michigan, and Ronald (Nita) Kukhahn of Northport, Michigan; his sister Karen Wasnich of Pioneer, Ohio, numerous nieces and nephews and countless loving friends. The Kukhahn family would like to thank John Cunningham and Chuck Valentine for their timeless effort and support for Steven.
Steven was an inspiration to many people with whom he interacted, not only through his brave courage and with his unique light, but also with his sense of humor and fearlessness as he faced the final months of his life.
A celebration of Steven's life will be held on Saturday, March 20 at 3:30 p.m. at the National AIDS Memorial Grove. The family requests donations be made in Steven's name to The National AIDS Memorial Grove and Maitri Hospice.
