Marcel Miranda III passed away on December 6, 2009. He was 53. Marcel was a social justice activist focusing on HIV and AIDS for over 20 years. For the past 5 years Marcel was the Manager of HIV Prevention and Testing and Health Promotion at Glide Health Services. He previously worked for the Names Project Foundation, The Stop AIDS Project, the San Francisco Department of Public Health, and served on the HIV Prevention Planning Council.

Marcel had a passion for people who were vulnerable and underserved. His work at Glide included advocacy, teaching, mentoring, and community outreach. He grew the HIV Testing and Prevention Program into a statewide model. Marcel's work reflected his commitment to the values of empowerment and unconditional love.

His spirit is still present in Glide's work and in the work of the HIV-AIDS activist and provider community. He is survived by his father, two sisters, a niece and two nephews. A celebration of his life will be held on January 24th 2009 at Glide Memorial Church, 330 Ellis Street at 1 pm.
