Long-time San Francisco resident and drag performer Jon Andrew passed away peacefully at his home July 26, after a 20-year medical struggle.

Born in Fresno, CA, Jon began performing early, writing plays for himself and friends. He excelled at crafts, including making jewelry and decorating picture frames.

Jon and his mother both graduated College of the Sequoias in 1987, the first C.O.S. mother/son pair to do so. He moved to Reno, Nevada, the following year, and while living there was adopted by his beloved cat, Miss Kitty.

Jon moved to San Francisco in 1991 and began performing and hosting drag shows as Grizzilla Presley in 1992. He was appreciated for his on- and offstage wit. Jon was an avid supporter of same-sex marriage rights and autistic children's issues.

Jon is survived by his mother and step-father, Maytie and Bob Leinweber; sister and brother-in-law, Tamalynne and Joe Ochoa; three beloved godchildren, Zachary, Alycia and McKayla Ochoa; caregiver/roommate and drag protege Tim Tait; and many friends.

A drag show celebrating Jon's life will be held at 1 p.m. on August 16 at the Encore Karaoke Lounge, 1550 California St. (upstairs) in San Francisco. Memorial donations can be made in his name to Autism Speaks. www.autismspeaks.org
