1934 " 2009

Gaylore C Y Tyau was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1934. After graduating from high school she attended college in Berkeley, CA, and then settled in San Francisco, living first on Nob Hill, then Potrero Hill and finally in the Castro district. Although she retained her island roots, she called San Francisco home.

She was a life-long educator working first in the San Francisco Unified School District and then at City College of San Francisco. She had an enduring fondness for people and got to know practically everyone with whom she crossed paths.

An avid reader, she perused the San Francisco Chronicle and New York Times on a daily basis and was always abreast of current events and neighborhood capers. She loved mystery novels, crossword puzzles, written correspondence, cooking, music and crochet. She also relished her role as 'Mrs. Madrigal' taking care of her many 'adopted' boys, both past and present.

On August 5, 2009, Gaylore passed away at Coming Home Hospice in her Castro neighborhood. We will miss you dearly, Auntie Gay! Aloha 'Oe.

A celebration of her life will be held at her "Barbary Lane" courtyard on Sunday, August, 23 at 4 p.m.
