January 29, 1962 - July 9, 2009

Joe "SF Joe" Holt of San Francisco, was born January 29, 1962 in Illinois. Joe passed away from multiple myeloma on July 9, 2009, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana near his loving parents and family. Before the myeloma claimed most of his time and energy, he worked in the technology field in San Jose.

In 1999, Joe received his Master's in Computer Software Engineering from Golden Gate University. Joe lived in San Francisco the last 20 years of his life. He most recently lived in the Opera Plaza neighborhood and, before that, in Bernal Heights.

Joe really enjoyed working in technology throughout the dot com boom. He was a warm and loving person with a heart of gold and many friends in the bi, adult industry, and leather pride communities.

Joe often volunteered time and donated generously to groups like BABN (Bay Area Bisexual Network) and The Center for Sex  Culture. Joe had a passion for working to end stereotypes against LGBT people and he offered support to those living in other parts of the country who had difficulty with their own orientation or were scared to "come out." Joe was one of the people who was instrumental in creating a sense of LGBT community before there was an official LGBT center in San Francisco.

The Center for Sex  Culture has generously donated space for a memorial for Joe Holt's Bay Area friends and family on Sunday August 9, at 1pm, 1519 Mission St, Suite 1, San Francisco.

Your friends miss you, Joe. We know you are using your amazing smarts and good heart while having a really great time on your next fun adventure!
