Walter passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 2009 in San Diego, California of cardiac complications. He was born in Franklin, Indiana on April 29, 1964, to Walter Carroll and Elaine Clark McCarthy, grew up in Berkeley and San Francisco and graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1989.
Stuart formed his own web hosting service and was much beloved as an educator among the slash/fanfiction community, where he was known online as "Minotaurs" and as a presenter on the conference circuit.
He is survived by his mother Elaine, his father Walter, his sister Allegra Thayer, and many loyal friends gathered over the decades.
