John R. Winn, 78, of San Francisco, passed away on March 20, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital, after an accident at his home. John was born in Ames, Iowa. He served in the Air Force for four years at Fort Atkinson, Iowa and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

John was a retiree living at Eastern Park Apartments in San Francisco for the past 17 years. Words used to describe his life and activities were: optimism, big smile, music, plays, piano player, hair stylist, live-in butler, chauffeur, houseman, Mr and Mrs. Moss, Moss Lighting, caregiver, Maryland, Missouri, California, Washington, D.C., sobriety, Yanni his cat, and California Culinary Academy.

He founded The Winn Finishing School for butlers and maids. His favorite job was as Head of Staff for the Jack Warner Estate (of Warner Brothers Studios).

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Hembree, and son-in-law, Michael, his grandchild, Lauren, all of Springfield, Mo., and also Lori's mother, Edith Phipps, and his close friend Bill Kean of Pittsburg.
