May 12, 1933 – June 26, 2008

left this life to begin her next adventure on June 26, 2008. A native of Branford, CT, Janet was born on May 12, 1933. She moved to San Francisco in 1993 and was well known in her community as a lesbian activist, healer, writer, avid birder, gardener and world traveler.

Janet leaves behind many dear friends with whom she shared her insights, love and infectious laughter. She was proud to be a member of OLOC (Old Lesbians Organizing for Change) and a fixture at local peace vigils and rallies supporting human rights and dignity for all. She served on the Advisory Board for Gay and Lesbian Outreach to Elders (GLOE) and also the Board of Directors and Advisory Board for New Leaf Outreach to Elders.

Her ever-smiling image graced newspapers and public transportation as the face for the new 211 service for the city. She rejoiced in the simplicity of working in her garden, marveled at and was comforted by nature and missed no opportunity to get behind the wheel of her beloved van, Rosie, in which she explored 48 states.

She enjoyed riding on the Elder cable car during Gay Pride and experiencing the joyous embrace of her lesbian sisters of all ages. She shared and grew with her friends as a member of various groups including writing, meditation, goddess, support, yoga and water aerobics.

She is survived by five children: Mark and David Lubeski of Branford, CT; Karen Clendening of Cambell, CA; Lori Lubeski of Brookline, MA, and Steven Lubeski of San Francisco. She leaves behind ten grandchildren whom she adored. She was predeceased by her parents Hyman and Anna Vishno, two brothers Burton and Joseph and one grandchild Shannon Clendening.

A celebration of her life was held at the Charles M. Holmes Campus of the LGBT Center at 1800 Market, San Francisco on July 3, from 3-6 p.m.

Donations may be made in her memory to the local chapter of OLOC or to New Leaf Outreach to Elders.
