Karl Von Faust

Karl Von Faust died at home on April 16 after a long illness from complications resulting from AIDS. He was 58.

Karl was born on August 23, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Charles and Eva Lance. He was raised by his stepmother and father in Philadelphia, where he attended school, church, and participated in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. After living briefly in Boston, he moved to San Francisco, a city he loved and to which he someday hoped to return. After leaving the West Coast, Karl returned to Philadelphia where he lived and worked in a Catholic church rectory. He then moved to the Washington area in the mid-1980s, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Karl, who had always loved cooking, worked for many years in the food services industry, and was particularly accomplished as a pastry chef. His ability to create elaborate confections was well-known.

He is survived by Sadie Faust, his stepmother, Maurice Faust, his brother, Mildred Faust and Doris Faust, nieces, Dot Sandler, a cousin, as well as many friends, including Steve Parker, Andrew Cooper, and Bob Colborn. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Judith Faust.
