August 15, 1946 – February 19, 2008

Donald Marx was a long-term resident of Oakland, California. Don was an educator, peace activist, and community leader/builder. Don touched many people's lives through his unwavering commitment to create peace, love and hope in our community.

Don was involved with many non-profits, and was the executive director of Community Peacemakers, a grassroots nonprofit that works in partnership with Bay Area educational and spiritual centers and social groups that organizes and facilitates programs and events that support common dreams of living in a time of peace, without violence and with equal and social justice.

Don led a spiritual life through associations with such groups as the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, Oakland-based Mindfulness, and the Diversity and Social Change Sangha.

Don was born in New York and grew up in Michigan, where he earned a Master of Arts in Education and relocated to the Bay Area after serving in the Navy and being stationed in Iceland. Don worked in Kaiser's Operations Dept. for many years. Known as "Mr. Magic," above all he was a good friend, mentor, and spiritual guide and will be truly missed. Don's ashes were scattered at sea Sat, March 22.
