October 29, 1949 – November 29, 2007

left this world suddenly and peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at the age of 58. "Oly," as he was known by many, lived in the Bay Area for 26 years, hailing from Coon Rapids, Minnesota.

He helped define "bear" before an organized community existed. Oly had been a long-time BOSF member who you could often see at many of the club beer booths throughout the years, sitting behind an International Bear Rendezvous registration table welcoming the new arrivals, always with his the generosity of spirit that was his being.

For many years Owen played in the San Francsico Gay Softball League. He served with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Alexander Hamilton American Legion Post 448. Owen was respected and loved by those who knew him.

He leaves his partner, Anders Winther, brother Kevin and sisters Eileen, Bonnie, Patricia and Mary.

A memorial service is being held on January 19th at 11 a.m., at the War Memorial Veterans Building, 450 Van Ness (at McAllister in San Francisco). Call (510) 645-1121 for further information.
