His name synonymous with "indominatable, " Daryl was born and raised a California boy, with deep family roots in Stockton. He also lived in Guerneville , and in Malibu with his beloved Aunt Nell, but it was San Francisco that captured his soul, and it was here that he found the recovery community that he so cherished and flourished in.

Confined to a wheelchair since a failed brain surgery over a decade ago, Daryl refused to be cast upon a throw-away heap of disabled persons, and was determined to fight his way back to normality after getting out of a nursing home in Stockton and returning to his adopted home of San Francisco.

Thanks to the rehabilitation services of Laguna Honda Hospital, he regained enough skills to be able to live in his own apartment, most recently at Junipero Serra House, and attend AA meetings again on his own.

Never feeling sorry for himself, he put the welfare of others first. His staunch adherence to the principles of 12 Step Recovery carried him through pain and all the obstacles he had to face. He could be found in any weather, even in torrential rain, "driving" his electric wheelchair to an AA meeting in any part of the city.

But it was the purchase of a van and regaining the ability to drive that according to Daryl gave him his "life back." He could be found visiting friends and going to meetings from the Marin Headlands to Guerneville to Stockton. Until the day he died, he continued his service to others.

God bless you and keep you, dear one. May we grow to become more like you. Accepting, serene, and peaceful ... indominatable, against all odds.

A memorial service will be held in Ellhert Hall, lower entry level to Most Holy Redeemer Church, at 18th and Diamond Streets, at 1:00 PM, Sunday, December 9th.
