October 14, 1967 – July 27, 2007

tragically passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 at age 39 due to an allergic reaction incurred during a medical procedure. Paul was well known within the Polk Street Community as the consummate bartender, club manager, Prince to the Imperial Court of San Francisco and for his daring spirit, irreverent humor, striking looks and wild antics. He worked more than twenty years in various gay clubs including Polk Gulch, Castro Street Station, Diva's and Deco Lounge.

An avid athlete, Paul made kite-boarding his favorite past time, as well as a metaphor for the way he lived; Paul soaring through life with a graceful strength.

Paul is survived by his parents Tim and Sia Scates, brothers John and Mark, sisters in-law Laura and Jane, niece Nalani, two nephews Timothy and Kanoa and significant other, Roger Klein.

Paul will be sorely missed by his adoring friends and family.

A celebration of Paul's life will be held at Deco Lounge, 510 Larkin Street on Sunday, August 19, 2007 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please call (415) 346-2025 for details.

Paul's bold playful spirit and laughter will forever ring in the mind, heart and soul of his loved ones.
