George Applegate was 80 years old. George died of a stroke at his home on Belcher St. on June 30, 2007.
Born in Morristown, New Jersey, he went to the University of South Dakota, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Chicago.
He was also a member of the Inner Temple of London, England, a member of the Presidio Officer's Club, and featured in Who's Who in America, 1980 edition.
George was a captain in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and also a member of San Francisco Gay Veterans. A scholarship fund in his name was established at San Francisco State University to assist financially needy students who are interested in gay rights.
