Manfred Schaechtle died on Memorial Day at his mother's home in Wilton, New York after a lifelong battle with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. He was a devoted son, brother, and uncle, and an incomparable friend to many around the world. Until 2007 Manfred was able to overcome his disease's assaults and live his vocation as a magnificent ballet and modern dancer; he lived and danced in San Francisco between 2000 and 2007, and when his body could no longer dance, his tender, hilarious, and unconquerable spirit continued to �" even in the midst of frequent hospitalizations Manfred encouraged his friends to turn to him as confidant, consoler, and nurturer. Thank you, Manfred, for your inspiring life and undying love: our hearts are broken to lose your irreplaceable self so soon.
