Jason had been a long time resident of San Francisco and had been very involved in his community through his work and in his personal life.

Jason loved and thrived working with the less fortunate and being able to express himself through his activism. He not only volunteered many places but he also took charge in many different programs in San Francisco and New York.

He was an activist for gay rights and HIV/AIDS research while a member of the Board of Directors Tenderloin AIDS Research Center and sat on two different doctors' boards. He was also co-founder of "Closet Space" and helped in getting the ADAP program up and running.

Jason had the opportunity to spread the ashes of a loved one onto the Senate floor to bring attention to the HIV/AIDS research needed.

Jason passed away peacefully at his mother's home on February 8, 2010. Jason is survived by his mother Cyndi Ellis-Ryan, his father John Bishop, his sister Michelle, two nieces Vanessa and Sophia and nephew Nikolas.
