Young Song was born in Lubbock, Texas on December 10, 1965. She earned her B.A. in Philosophy at Cornell University and a Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the American College of Chinese Medicine in San Francisco.
She lived in the San Francisco Bay Area from 1992-2004 and became active in queer and Asian/Pacific Islander politics. In 2004, Young returned to Lubbock to care for her mother. After her mother passed, she formed a successful Chinese Medicine practice in Lubbock. In 2007, she moved to New York City.
Young was adventurous, loving, and full of laughter. She followed eastern philosophy and believed in helping those less fortunate than herself. She was adored by the people who knew her well and those who only met her once.
Young departed this world on January 4, 2009. She will always be deeply missed. She is survived by her companion India Alexis, her father Pill Song, brothers Minn and Linn, uncle Sun Boong Choy, and a large community of loving friends.
A memorial service will be held on February 22 at 2pm at the Center for Transformative Change, 2584 Martin Luther King, Jr Way, Berkeley CA 94704.
