William Ashley-Dobbin, aka Khayyim Shalom Ben Avraham, died in a Los Angeles hopsital on January 27, 2008. He was 63. Khayyim was originally from El Paso Texas, but lived for many years in San Antonio. For the last decade of his life he lived in San Diego. Before that, he resided in San Francisco and was a member of Congregation Sha'ar Zahav.
Khayyim is survived by two children, Aprille Cruz and Paul Dobbin, and four grandchildren: Julian and Amelia Cruz; Samantha Bradley-Dobbin and Mikayla Bradley. His memorial was held in Los Angeles shortly after his death. His first love was the synagogue, and his second authorship. He leaves behind books of poetry and other writings.
