March 31, 1950 - July 16, 2008
Ken was born in New York City, the second of three sons of James Phillip Duchscherer and Ruth Geraldine Duchscherer. After attending college at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and completing his BA in English and Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley, Ken settled in San Francisco.
For most of his career, Ken found his niche in Blue Shield of California's Public Relations Department. Ken's kindness and generosity was showcased by his active volunteerism with Shanti and Open Hand at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic.
Ken enjoyed entertaining friends at his Russian River second home, as well as in his stylish flat in the City. Among his passions were playing the piano, his beloved cat Percy, sharing books with his book club, and maintaining close ties to his family and loyal circle of friends. His wit and distinctive sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Geraldine Duchscherer of Sonoma, and his brothers Paul Duchscherer of San Francisco and Steven Duchscherer and his wife Sandy of Van Nuys, California. Remember Ken with a donation to an AIDS charity of your choice or to the SF SPCA. Rest in Peace.
