died unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital on May 29, 2008. He was 61.
He was born Nov. 14, 1946 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Leslie and Lenna P. Erikson. He grew up in Groton, Connecticut, attended Columbia University, and spent several years in New York City. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1970 and worked as a social worker for the City of San Francisco for 20 years.
He was predeceased by his mother in 1984 and his sister Anne Meyer in 2001. He is survived by his father of Martinez, Georgia; his brother, James, of Connell, Washington; and four sisters: Marjorie Banyan of Moses Lake, Washington; Barbara Carroll of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; Norma Jackson of Groton, Connecticut; and Judith Hall of Martinez, Georgia; many nieces and nephews, and intimate friends Bob Calder of San Francisco and Denise Zetterbaum of Lafayette.
An avid reader, he was decent and kind, with a dry wit, and a generous and compassionate caregiver to many. His friends and family will miss him dearly.
At his request, there will be no service. Gifts in his memory may be made to the ACLU and Doctors Without Borders.
