, who ran the CD Record Rack with his longtime partner, DJ Michael Garrett, died in his sleep June 12, 2006. He was 48. Robert had a special relationship with the many deejays and other customers who came to the store to get the new releases that he had ordered for them. He always gave people his ear and genuinely listened to what they had to say. Robert would engage people in serious conversations, playful gossip, or a good laugh and was a social anchor for many in the dance club community. It was a difficult time when the store closed and his partner Michael passed on almost two years ago. Robert was an articulate, caring, multi-faceted person. He received his Bachelors at the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters in Divinity at Saint Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, California. He is survived by his loving mother, Cary Kimler of Woodside, CA; his father Byron Kimler of Oregon; his twin sister Kay Kimler of North Carolina; and his two brothers, Ernst Kimler of Redwood City, and Russell Kimler of Tennessee. He was buried on June 30 in Gut Lohne, Germany. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and associates in San Francisco and beyond.
