Disappointed theater hearing postponed
I was in the crowded hearing room on December 7 when the Historic Preservation Commission listened to the community's unanimous requests that the scheduled hearing on expanded designation for the Castro Theatre not be postponed ["Castro Theatre hearing postponement angers supporters of landmarking movie house's interior," online, December 8].
We were all extremely disappointed to learn, after two hours of public comment, that the commissioners weren't prepared to do anything but postpone the matter and didn't have the necessary materials in front of them to conduct such a hearing as scheduled. The good outcome of this was that we were afforded another chance to gather together and have our voices be heard. Supervisor [Rafael] Mandelman should conduct a town hall meeting so that we have an opportunity for a larger community discussion and it should happen in January before the rescheduled historic preservation hearing.
