Theater is economic driver of Castro
So, Harvey's has closed — yet another sign of a COVID battered but also demographically evolving Castro. Stop the dawdling: let's get going with the one real economic and social driver in the Castro: the Castro Theatre. A vocal, passionate but misguided "yesterday once more" coalition continues to oppose the culturally sensitive, architecturally impeccable, well researched, well articulated and well funded plans by Another Planet Entertainment to restore, renovate, and revitalize the Castro Theatre for the current and new generation of theatregoers, including vibrant LGBTQ content, film, special events and yes, concerts. Enough already. Let's all get behind Another Planet's plans and work together to bring back the Castro to what it has been for decades: a diverse, thriving and welcoming neighborhood.
