Although the January 24, 1973 issue of the Bay Area Reporter is packed with bar gossip, political opinions and campy retro ads, the cover story caught our eye, as reportage on the Gaslight nightclub's legal battle freed the establishment of Indecent Exposure charges, allowing the club to let its male gogo dancers strip to full nudity.
"The judge declared there was nothing illegal in dancing nude, as long as it was not lewdly performed. Perhaps now local police harassment of the GASLIGHT will cease and the boy dancers will be able to work without fear of being busted for showing what God gave them."
Would that bars and nightclubs today could enjoy such freedom.
