This year marks the 10th annual Bay Area Reporter readers' poll, the Besties, and voting begins Thursday, January 30.

The popular contest allows readers to share their favorite LGBTQ-owned and LGBTQ-allied people, places, and things in the Bay Area. Categories run the gamut from arts and culture to shopping to nightlife.

There are new people nominated in the nightlife entries, so be sure to check for your favorite drag queen and bartender.

As in the past, there is a write-in option for every category.

Readers who complete at least 75% of the ballot will automatically be eligible for prizes. (See the ballot for detailed information.)

The grand prize this year is a pair of VIP weekend passes to LA Pride, June 12-14. Other prizes include a pair of tickets to see Opera Parallle's "Harvey Milk" at the Blue Shield of California Theater at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in May; a pair of tickets to see Mika at the Masonic April 13; and several sets of the five-CD package "I Got You Babe: The Best of Sonny & Cher."

Readers are encouraged to vote early. Voting can be done online or use the ballot printed in this week's issue, pages 14-15.

Besties voting closes Wednesday, March 4, at 11:59 p.m.; the Besties issue will be published Thursday, April 2.
