With the cancellation of in-person events for the popular annual Bay Area Book Festival, online events continue through May and June, including a talk with acclaimed gay author Garth Greenwell.
The author of Cleanness will discuss 'Sex, Art and Power' with Lidia Yuknavitch (Verge). Both authors' recent works include explicit scenes that bring new light to sexuality beyond erotica. Keiko Lane, writer, poet and professor, will moderate the talk, scheduled for Tuesday May 19th, 7pm PST.
Other talks take on contemporary topics. 'Suppressed; the Right to Vote' (May 21, 7pm) includes a screening of the "scary and galvanizing" (Variety) documentary, and a conversation with director Robert Greenwald, Atlanta college student Phoebe Einzig-Roth —whose infuriating struggle to vote for the first time was documented in the film— and moderator John Diaz of the San Francisco Chronicle.
June events include 'Unplugging in a Virtual World' with Tiffany Shlain and Chloe Veltman, June 4, 7pm;
'A Cursed Blessing: The Hidden Gifts in Times of Trial,' with journalist-author David Talbot (Season of the Witch, founder and former editor-in-chief of Salon) and Sir Michael Moritz (Return to the Little Kingdom: How Apple and Steve Jobs Changed the World) June 11, 7pm;
and 'No Place to Shelter: What COVID-19 Reveals About Inequality,' a panel with leading journalists and activists Conor Dougherty, Zach Norris, and Joe Wilson (June 23, 7pm).
