A Catholic funeral Mass will be held for Garza, a transgender Latina woman who started the House of Garza and did HIV/AIDS outreach for the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

Friends said that the Mass will be held Saturday, October 29, at 11 a.m. at Mission Dolores Basilica, 3321 16th Street, in San Francisco.

As the Bay Area Reporter previously reported, Garza, who was widely known by one name, died September 27 at Kaiser Hospital. She was 60.

Garza emigrated from Peru to the U.S. in 2002. In Peru, she had trained as a ballet dancer at the National Ballet School of Peru and spent much of her dance career at the Ballet Municipal de Lima.
