Baird says 'thanks'
I want to thank everyone, gay and straight, who participated in the march in the Castro to the front of my house to celebrate publicly my years as a union leader ["LGBTQs rally for longtime labor stalwart Baird as Pride festivities begin," online, June 25]. I was very moved to be honored by so many people. It meant a great deal to me. All the different unions were represented there, and many of my friends from the LGBTQ community, led by my dear friend and fellow activist, Cleve Jones.
It was always important to me to strongly represent my union and its membership. I had no idea how important and generative my connection with Harvey Milk would be for unions everywhere in America over these many years.
