After a five-day delay, adult San Franciscans were finally able to purchase recreational marijuana beginning Saturday, January 6 after state and city officials approved licenses for a handful of operators. Above, customers lined up inside the Apothecarium in the Castro district, one of the first dispensaries allowed to open for recreational sales. Gay state Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and gay District 8 Supervisor Jeff Sheehy joined Apothecarium officials in marking the occasion. Adult recreational sales of cannabis began January 1 in several other California cities.
