It's Women's History Month and the time of year that state lawmakers choose a woman in their district to honor. On Sunday, March 27, gay state Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), right, recognized Jupiter Peraza, left, a transgender woman who is the director of social justice and empowerment initiatives at the Transgender District, as his Senate District 11 Woman of the Year. The event took place at Manny's cafe in the Mission district. Wiener wrote on Twitter that Peraza has done extraordinary work for her community. Peraza thanked Wiener for the honor.
