Pharmacy students at UCSF have organized a personal protective equipment drop-off site at a Castro area pharmacy Saturday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The drop-off will be held at lesbian-owned TIN Rx, an independent pharmacy located at 2175 Market Street. Physical distancing requirements will be in effect.
Organizers sent a flyer listing several items that will be accepted. They include unused N95 masks, unopened hand sanitizer, unopened glove boxes, unopened disinfectant such as Clorox wipes, and packaged, unused goggles.
"Local hospitals are already in severe need of PPE to protect health care providers and their patients," Adriana Gardner, a pharmacy student at UCSF, wrote in an email to the Bay Area Reporter. "All donations will go straight to local hospitals experiencing shortages."
TIN Rx co-owners Christina Garcia and Patricia PJ Nachman were unavailable when reached for comment Thursday. But Gardner noted that the pharmacy is expected to serve as a drop-off site for PPE donations until they are no longer needed.
