Former MTA chair honored with plaque

Retired Municipal Transportation Agency Board of Directors Chair Tom Nolan, center, pointed to the plaque dedicated in his honor at the Castro Muni Metro station January 4, flanked by MTA Vice Chair Malcolm Heinicke, left, and MTA Executive Director Ed Reiskin. Nolan, a gay man, said he was "very honored" to learn the city's transit agency would install a plaque commemorating his years of service and advocacy for public transit. The bronze plaque is on a brick pillar next to the stairs leading down to the Castro Muni station's outbound platform. "I was very proud to be on the SFMTA board but also am very proud to say it isn't my fault anymore," joked Nolan. Reiskin thanked Nolan for his leadership and joked, "Tom is now responsible for cleaning the station platform."
