The flag-draped coffin of the late U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg arrived at the U.S. Capitol Friday morning where she will lie in state for two hours, the first woman and first Jewish person to do so. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York), top left, attended the ceremony. Ginsburg, 87, died September 18 of cancer. President Donald Trump is expected to nominate her replacement Saturday, setting off a fierce fight as he's likely to pick a conservative woman, which would shift the balance of power on the court firmly to the right. Republicans control the Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Kentucky) seems to have the votes for confirmation.
The New York Times reported Friday afternoon that Trump will nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett and make the formal announcement Saturday. Barrett, 48, is a favorite of social conservatives and is currently a judge on the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
