Transgender people and their allies held their first Trans March in Oakland Saturday, September 7, the day before Oakland Pride festivities. The groups started near Broadway and 14th Street, with several people holding placards with the names and pictures of trans women lost to violence. Organizers said the event was held to create visibility for trans women of color and the at least 17 trans women who have been murdered in the U.S. so far this year.
