Since moving to London with his husband Chris Turner, Bay Area fans of best-selling 'Tales of the City' author Armistead Maupin have missed his local appearances. On August 12, he'll discuss his life and writing with his friend, actor Sir Ian McKellen.

Broadcast from Crazy Coqs in London, the actor (whose credits and awards are expansive, including a cameo in the first TV series adaptation of Tales of the City, will discuss the author's life and writing, including his new memoir, Logical Family: A Memoir.

Maupin's Tales of the City series of novels have become classic and popular favorites, and feature now-iconic San Francisco settings, historic eras, and characters. His other works, Maybe the Moon and The Night Listener, are also best-sellers.
