We could share the full-page ad for Pia Zadora's March concert at the Trocadero Transfer, although we don't recall her 'hit,' "The Clapping Song."

We could share the two-page spread about the October 1983 Gay Rodeo, but you know, animal cruelty's passé, which is good. But gay guys with cowboy hats, tight jeans and pornstaches are also passé (boo!).

Instead, let's gander at a full-page June 23 interview with Tom Ammiano, gay comic and later, politico and memoirist (Kiss My Gay Ass, at local bookstores). Writer Scott Treimel's ruminative feature focuses on Ammiano's life and stage style in an advance for a show at the Valencia Rose. Ammiano notes how The Punch Line and other straight clubs wouldn't book him or other out LGBT stand-up acts.

"Ammiano wants to reclaim our right to be sissies," Treimel writes in the informative yet not funny article about one of our town's funniest people. Oh, well. They can't all be gems.
