In late October 1999, film writer Gary Morris focused on the San Francisco Film Society's Dark Wave series, a three-night mini-festival of unusual independent films screened at The Victoria Theatre, including Dario Argento's 1998 remake of The Phantom of the Opera, Jake West's Razor Blade Smile, and Sam Raimi's classic 1982 flick, The Evil Dead, which unleashed comic horror hunk Bruce Campbell and an army of devoted fans.
