Members of the Alexander Hamilton Post 448 of the American Legion, under Commander Jimmy McConnell, joined with members of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and other community leaders to participate in International Holocaust Remembrance Day at Pink Triangle Park in the Castro Friday, January 27. The solemn tribute remembered the millions of victims of the Holocaust, including LGBTQ people. Pink Triangle Park is located at the northwest corner of Market and Castro streets (bordered by 17th Street), and is a permanent memorial to the estimated 15,000 gay men who were forced to wear pink triangle patches and were interned in concentration camps on charges of homosexuality during the Nazi era. The majority of them died in the camps.
